Sayoko Yamaguchi, famous for her black bangs cut just above her eyes, is one of the first Asian models to establish herself in Western fashion capitals. She began in Paris in 1972 she was selected by the American weekly Newsweek as one of the first six top models in the world. The same year, she illustrated the cover of the album Aja by the American jazz rock group Steely Dan, via a photo taken by Hideki Fujii, her face in portrait also illustrates the cover of a Japan pressing album by Steely Dan published in 1978 .[not clear.
