Stéphane Sensey is best described as an intuitive photographer whose work revolves around the connections between people and their environments, both natural and manmade. Raised in Biarritz, the famous beach town in southwest France, he studied in Spain and later took photography classes in the San Francisco Bay region. He would first cut his teeth in the world of professional photography after he was invited by Photographer Mart Engelen as an editorial director for Biarritz, a book about his hometown, published in 2004. Intrigued by foreign cultures, Stephane Sensey started exploring the world in search of the images he wished to photograph. In 2004 he would settle to Bali, which he would use as his main base for further explorations in the Indonesian Archipelago.

Before photography, painting had the role of representing reality. But the arrival of photography turned the world of painting upside down. It loses its role of representing reality and must then reinvent itself, diversify or disappear. The conflict of drawing and color which dates back to the Italian Renaissance regains strength and asserts itself once again to remind us of what distinguishes painting from other arts.
