Jules C, the Instinct of Decor

Our travels, our days, our crossings. Our feelings, our emotions, the lives we go through. Our pictures. In the contemporary era everything becomes images, and above all our emotions, taken on the spot, during a trip, a walk or a stay. Smartphone in hand, alone, Jules C. observes and captures without calculation sensations over the landscapes which are then displayed as feelings and moods. The technique gives way to the impression. An almost banal way to capture beauty anywhere, anytime, without preparation, in the moment. Emotional archives thus accumulate, which above all tell of the interior as a furtive reflection caught in the decor.

Jules C. born in 1974 in Bordeaux. A graduate of Sciences-Po, he spent his life in fashion, decoration, furniture and trade in general. Today brand director, he writes between Marseille and La Ciotat. The first writings date from 1989, at first exclusively in the form of short poems as a diary. This journal, which grew considerably until 1995, gradually transformed into a real desire to pursue writing. This will continue with regularity in the form of annual collections until 2006. Very chronological, these seasons will be grouped together in a first collection initially entitled Du parfum sur la Maille.

After a decade of interruption, writing returns. From 2018, he immerses himself in all his writings that have remained carefully stored. The desire to get out of this chronology and to put back perspectives of emotions through time leads to a total overhaul from which the collections were born: Sous le Rire de la Lune, Portrait de ton coeur au waking, writings of youth.

The return of inspiration allows in 2019 to return definitively to unpublished texts which, grouped together, become “Lettres au prince de sciure” published in November 2020. Then will follow the collection of texts written between 1989 and 2020 in the collection.

Les Peaux qu’on dévore, published in March 2021. In a loop of 30 years, a trilogy concludes with a bio-fiction made up of short stories, correspondence and photos: “Les élégants“, published in July 2021.

Jules C. then devoted himself to a new trilogy resuming his texts in short and original versions, the first two parts of which Superbe et Inutile and De Villes en Ils were published in 2022. The third part À tant aimer les morsures has just been published in March 2023. Each of these collections is embellished with unpublished works from 2022 and 2023.
